With Employee Engagement at just 33% among American workers and 36% in the UK, compared to 70% in the world’s best organisations, we ask you to consider to what extent your company’s choice of business management system contributes to winning productivity and commercial performance.
Having defined Employee engagement as the degree to which an employee deliberately contributes to your organisations success, can you say with conviction that every member of your team understands your vision and how their role contributes to its achievement – and that your management system effectively supports the necessary collaboration and teamwork to win? Can you? Can you really?
[wpmem_logged_in]In a bid to get to grips with the real issues underlying employee enthusiasm and productivity, we’ve created this 10 point check list to enable you evaluate your business management system against critical employee engagement criteria.
Consider for a moment how you capture and share business processes in your own organisation to empower your people to collaborate effectively to drive customer service and commercial performance; and then score your existing business management system against the following statements. Doing this with functional managers or leadership team colleagues will ensure you get the most objective assessment.
Ask yourself/yourselves ‘does our current business management system…
- make it easy for our people to understand the vision and purpose of our organisation?’
- provide our people with a very clear job description for their role?’
- help our people see how their role contributes to the success of the wider organisation?’
- encourage and empower our people to innovate and suggest improvements?’
- enable employee opinions and suggestions to be given significant consideration in the organisation’s decision-making process?’
- enable good communication between the different departments?’
- make it easy for people to understand the reasons and rationale behind any key changes that happen within the organisation?’
- make it easy for co-workers to work well together to achieve our goals?’
- enable managers to provide valuable feedback that allows employees to improve their performance
- encourage and empower our people to produce quality work
If you were unable to answer a unanimous ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, it’s quite possible that your business management system is undermining your employee engagement and obstructing your commercial performance. And if your employees don’t have a clear understanding of exactly how their job role contributes to the big picture, and access to tools that enable them to effectively connect and collaborate with their colleagues and consistently execute and innovate your business processes; then they will remain siloed and their enthusiasm to fully contribute will become suppressed.
